GAYER L. Marguerite Trout Gayer, age 97, born in a log cabin in Brown County, OH on June 12, 1906 died March 6, 2004 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Marguerite went to school in a one-room schoolhouse in Brown County. When she was old enough to go to high school, the family moved to Georgetown, and then to Columbus so she could be the first in her family to attend college. At Ohio State, she majored in Home Economics (Institutional Management), was active in 4-H, Wesley Foundation, Kappa Phi and was a member of a championship meat-judging team for OSU. She graduated in June 1930 and was married for 61 years to Bernard Frederick Gayer, Civil Engineering, 1929 OSU, who preceded her in death in 1991. Marguerite was active at Indianola United Methodist Church and since 1940 at Maple Grove United Methodist Church where she developed an innovative program to support Sunday School teachers with literature and curricula. She was a member of University Chapter #631, O.E.S., Columbus Assembly Social Order of Beauciant #79 & Ladies Auxiliary of Franklin Chapter Ohio Society of Professional Engineers. She is survived by 3 children, Ruth G. (G. David) Cahoon, Walnut Creek, CA, Paul D. (Sylvia L.) Gayer, Silver Spring, MD, and Keith T. (Nancy S.) Gayer, Gahanna; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial Service 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 7 West Henderson Road, Columbus, with Rev. William Croy, officiating. Private Interment Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington.
