Fluellen Chester Imogene Fluellen, age 90, transitioned peacefully surrounded by loving family on Thursday, January 24, 2013. Born December 11, 1922 in Commerce, GA. Chester and her family have been long-time residents of the community of Worthington. Possessed with a lively and compassionate spirit, Chester will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Preceded in death by her husband Walter F. Fluellen, Sr., daughter Kathryn M. Slaughter and nine siblings. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Walter F. Fluellen, Jr., Patricia A. Fluellen (Malcolm Jackson), Rev. Michael L. Fluellen (Laurie), and Jeffrey E. Fluellen (Janice); grandchildren, Ramona L. Fluellen-Sipp (Paul), Walter F. Fluellen, III (Anitra), Keith R. Fluellen (Melanie), Jason S. Fluellen, Michael L. Fluellen, Jr., Marcus Fluellen (Lucy), Nicole Pena, Larry Pena, Megan Fluellen, Morgan Fluellen, Tony Fluellen (Tiffany), Cierra Thornton (John), Love-Faith Fluellen, Malachi Fluellen, Micah Fluellen, Ayana Slaughter, and Asijah Slaughter. Also to mourn her passing are 17 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include sisters, Zurlee Davis, Columbus, OH, Sophie Carruth, Commerce, GA; and special brother, Johnny James, Norfolk, VA. Chester loved and mentored many youngsters in the Worthington community, who she watched grow up to successful adulthood. Special sons and daughters, Dr. Charles Monagan, Billy J. Bounds, Dr. Gayle Colston-Barge, Kirsten Fluellen, Rod Young, Rose Walton, John Beatty, Billy Fields, David Macer, Judge Tim Horton, Roslyn Barrett, and Kathy Craig. Also in remembrance are long-time friends, Connie Mayfield, Gloria Monagan, Virginia McCammon, Ethel Traylor, Nellie Russell, Sylvia Richards, and Geneva Colston. Chester leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends to mourn. Funeral Service 12Noon Friday, February 1, 2013 at St. John AME Church, 7700 Crosswoods Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43235, with Pastor Rev. Jermain D. Covington officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. The family would like to give special thanks to the Staff of Forest Hills Adult Day Services, Dr. Lisa Braverman, Dr. Michael Goodyear, III, and Home Health Connections. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Central Ohio.
