DUFFEY nee Stambaugh Ann Sams (nee Stambaugh) Duffey, 77, of Worthington, Ohio, after a decades long fight against breast cancer, died on June 20, 2010 of complications from cancer. Born in Youngstown, Ohio on September 25, 1932, to Dr. Clem R. Stambaugh, DDS, and Millicent Aumiller Stambaugh, Ann was known as an accomplished equestrian, showing horses in several states and making frequent appearances in the winner's circle. She graduated from Canfield High School in 1950, attended Ward Belmont College in Tennessee and obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Ohio State University in 1954. She married Fred Sams in 1956, with whom she had three beloved sons, Jonathan (Teri) Sams of Port Orchard, WA; Dan Sams of Lopez Is., WA and Adam Sams of Marysville, OH. She married her dear friend, John J. Duffey, in 1986, who predeceased her in May, 2010. Ann served as a volunteer for the Buckeye Boys Ranch, the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts and the Beaux Arts Auxiliary. She volunteered for and was employed by the Columbus Metropolitan Library, most recently at the Driving Park Branch. She was also a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Ann is survived by her loving sons and daughter-in-law, her dear grandchildren, Hadley Ann and Jacob Sams; and great-granddaughters, Makenzie and Kaleah; her treasured sister, Patricia R. Cavanaugh of Canfield, OH; devoted nieces, Clint Cavanaugh, Alex Cavanaugh and Nancy Andreano; and by her many caring Duffey step-children and grandchildren. She is predeceased by her dear parents, and by Fred Sams and John Duffey. Ann cherished her many friends and family, and in turn was cherished by them for her hospitality, charming wit, grace and style. She had a true love of literature, art and design. More than anything, she was incredibly brave. In keeping with Ann's wishes, no service will be held, however there will be a visitation on Saturday, June 26, 2010, from 3-5 p.m. at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 North High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation, to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for breast cancer or to the charity of your choice.
