DeVOE F. Venita "Dete" DeVoe, formerly of Upper Arlington, Oh., passed away at Riverside Hospital on February 22, 2005. She was born on April 6, 1907 to Gussie Belle Howard and Clayton Delp in Galt, Ill. An avid horse lover, Dete kept several horses on her property in Worthington, Oh. and could frequently be seen riding with her son through the open spaces in the then less populous city of Worthington. She later boarded horses at The River Ridge Riding Club and where she served several terms as a board member. Dete was also an officer of the Ohio State Fair Horse Show Committee. In addition to riding, Dete played bridge regularly for many years - stopping only recently due to failing eyesight. Along with enjoying her hobbies, Dete ran the Pixieland Kindergarten in the basement of her Worthington home where many past and present community leaders experienced early learning. She has been a generous member of Worthington Presbyterian Church for over 60 years - longer than any other parishioner. Dete celebrated 63 years of marriage and is predeceased by her husband Ensign DeVoe II. She is also predeceased by her brothers Leonard Delp and Chester L. Delp. She is survived by her only child, E. David DeVoe of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 5 grandchildren, Deidre Kuhn (Neiel), Daphne Gottfried (Robert), Doug DeVoe, Dawn Butler (Robert) and Denise Buyaky (Reid); 9 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Constance Delp; and special friends, Dorothy Smith and Carol Cone. There will be a private family gathering at the WEIR-AREND FUNERAL HOME, with private interment immediately following at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Worthington. Memorial service will be announced at a later date.
