DECKARD Marguerite Evelyn "Babs" Deckard, age 90, of Columbus, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013. She joins her husband of 62 years, George W. Deckard, and her beloved daughters Linda Cortellesi and Nancy Deckard. Her brother Arthur E. Strauss of Columbus also precedes her in death. Born June 5, 1922 in Charleston, West Virginia, Marguerite was the daughter of the late Godfrey Eric Strauss and Ivy M. Barron Strauss. Marguerite graduated from North High School in 1939 where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended The Ohio State University and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. While at OSU, she was a proud member of the "Strollers" theatrical group and worked at WOSU radio broadcasting. After raising her four children, Marguerite graduated with honors from Ohio Dominican University in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in religious studies. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Columbus where she had served as Sunday School Coordinator and Lay Reader. A lover of books, Marguerite enjoyed reading and studying religion, philosophy, psychology and the arts. She also enjoyed writing, arts and crafts and working at the Golden Hobby Shop with her husband George. Marguerite is survived by her son, Thomas Deckard of Columbus; and daughter, Sarah Christine (Greg) Cheslock of Dublin; and three grandchildren, Alex Cortellesi of Worthington, and Zachary and Joshua Cheslock of Dublin; sister-in-law, Cindy Strauss and family also survive her; as well as extended family Chester Cortellesi, Ken Harsh and Leah Charamut. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19 at St Stephen's Episcopal Church, 30 West Woodruff Avenue. Interment: Walnut Grove Cemetery.
