Thomas E. Clancy Jr. of Worthington OH, died Monday, December 14, 1998 at the age of 84, at Riverside Hospital. Born in Demopolis, AL, he was preceded in death by parents Thomas E. Clancy Sr. and Ella Mae Buck Clancy, brothers Magnus and Louie, sister Thelma Bruner. Survived by wife of 55 years, Maxine (Anders); daughters Cathryn (Skip) Moyer, Annapolis, MD, Sharon (Craig) Madsen, Naples, FL and Carolyn (Charles) Tulloh, Worthington, OH; grandchildren, Alexandria, VA, John Hill, Trinidad, CA, and Brian Tulloh, Worthington, OH; sisters, Maxine Callen and Mildred Harrison, Selma AL; sister-in-law, Iva Clancy, Chickamauga, GA. Clancy graduated in 1939 from the School of Engineering, Univ. of AL, was a graduate of the Civilian Pilot Training Program and was a reserve lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was a major contributor in the field of aviation during his 38 year career at North American Rockwell, working in Los Angeles and Columbus. In an early assignment, Clancy was part of the team that installed specialized equipment on the B-25 bombers used by Gen. James Doolittle in his raid on Tokyo. Subsequently he played a key role in the P-51 Mustang aircraft from its inception, specializing in its powerplant. He remained with that program throughout World War II, including the development of the F-82 Twin Mustang. Clancy also was involved with the SNJ/AT-6 series of aircraft, the B-25 and later the Navion. He rose to the position of Program Manager on the T-28, T-2, and OV1 airplanes. Member of the Worthington Presbyterian church for over 40 years. Friends may call from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to the 11:30 a.m. Memorial Service on Friday, Dec.18, 1998 at Rutherford-Corbin Chapel.
