Helen Leah Farrell Charlton died July 6, 2021, at the age of 99. She was born September 9, 1921, to Thomas and Lulu (Miller) Farrell, in Columbus, Ohio. Helen was a graduate of North High School and The Ohio State University. In 1943, she married James Alan Charlton. They lived in Worthington and were both active in the community. Helen was a lifelong member of Clinton Heights Lutheran Church and was involved in many of its ministries. She served as president of the Columbus Conference of Lutheran Church Women, was a board member of the Lutheran Outdoor Ministries, and was employed for ten years by the Worthington School System. In 1957, Helen was awarded the title of Mrs. Columbus. She was an avid quilter and seamstress, and cherished time spent with her family. Helen is survived by her children: Susan Charlton of Gahanna; Michael (Deborah) Charlton of Chevy Chase, MD; William (Teresa) Charlton of Worthington; and Judy (John) Heidmann of Orlando, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren Scott (Debra) McCain, Jeffrey (Deborah) McCain, Andrew (Judy) McCain, Susan M. Charlton (Chuck Bieber), Daniel (Mikel) Charlton, Jody (Ted) Repasky, Rhonda (Shawn) Bailey, Michael (Robin) Heidmann, Allison (Dustin) Hunter, sixteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Mary Jayne Farrell Blake, her grandson James William Charlton, and her granddaughter Deena Brown. A private family graveside will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Rutherford Corbin Funeral Home in Worthington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lutheran Memorial Camp, or a charity of your choice.
