Cannell, Steven Chris "Reenie" Cannell, 74, went to be with Jesus and reunited with his first wife Kathy and their firstborn son Christopher Steven, on Monday January 18 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Born on September 22, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio, Steve was the second born son of Nick James and Hope Marie Cannell. In June of 1967 Steve married his Upper Arlington High School Sweetheart Kathy Butterfield. Steve knew hardship at an early age. While honorably serving his country in Vietnam, He and Kathy lost their 15 month old firstborn son, Christopher. After having two more children together Kathy fought cancer and ultimately went to be with the Lord in 1994. In July of 1995 Steve was blessed to love and marry Susan Taylor Cannell and they shared over 25 years together. Having become a follower of Jesus Christ in 1976, Steve found an anchor that would sustain him through the heartbreaks and difficulties of life. His hope in Christ touched all of his pursuits, gave him outlets to both serve and encourage people, and sustained him during the numerous health conditions he wrestled daily. With his generous heart, he spent much of his energy ensuring the future of those he loved would be secure. He often expressed joy that both of his children continued to be involved in Christian ministry. As a regarded financial savant, Steve provided immeasurable assistance to people, families, and Christian ministries by assisting them in taxes, legal filings, and financial policy throughout his life. As a compulsively enthusiastic researcher, Steve followed Buckeye football, politics, recipes, theology, restaurants, and the music of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. Over the last decade, Steve especially enjoyed reconnecting with classmates from the Upper Arlington High School Class of 1964. He enjoyed countless meals, reunions, Buckeye games, and shenanigans with his buddies. In addition to his many friends in Columbus, Ohio, he made many friends in Florida and of course enjoyed his favorite pastime, eating out with them as well. He leaves behind his wife, Susan; children, Jeff and Adrienne Cannell, Elizabeth and Jeff Jackson; and six grandchildren, Ian and Kathleen Cannell, Owen, Lukas, Avery, and Eliot Jackson. He considered each of his grandchildren his "favorite". In one of his parting conversations he made sure they knew he even loved his great-grandchildren who were not yet born. Steve is also survived by his 101 year old father, Nick Cannell; and siblings, Jim Cannell, Lynne Flowers, Sue Arnold, and Missi and Chester Scott. Steve was preceded in death by son Christopher in 1970, wife Kathy in 1994, mother Hope in 1999, and brother-in-law Gayle in 2007. Steve passionately supported the ministries of CURE International and Asia's Hope through prayer, passion, and finances. In lieu of flowers please consider giving to one or both of these ministries in Steve's Honor at cure.org/donate and asiashope.org. In lieu of a Public Funeral we will host a memorial service at a future date, details of which will be on his Facebook page.
