James Staton Calvert was born February 14, 1932, in Princeton, West Virginia, to James William Staton Calvert and Thelma Boone Calvert. He graduated from East Rockaway High School in New York in 1950, earned his airline service mechanic credentials in 1952, married Jean Calvert in December 1953, and served in the United States Army, Second Armed Division, Bad Kreuznach, Germany, in 1954. He received a Good Conduct Medal, an Army Occupation Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal along with an achievement award for overseas service. He received an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1952 and the Army in 1960. Shortly after his return from Germany, he and wife Jean moved with their twin daughters to Ohio. James began his career as a computer programmer/engineer at North American Rockwell in Columbus, Ohio, and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in the College of Arts and Science in 1970 from The Ohio State University. In 1980 he earned his pilot's license from the Columbus Chapter Rockwell Flying Club. He retired from North American Rockwell with much recognition from projects he designed, and successfully concluded his career with General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas. He earned a good government leader award from General Dynamics. He received recognition in 1990 for his research and development in aircraft vulnerability from both North American Rockwell and General Dynamics. He enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader and was passionate about computers, cars, bicycling, house projects, his community, and family. James and Jean Calvert are survived by their twin daughters, Debra Lynd and Kim Moore, son-in-law, David Lynd, grandchildren, Stephanie and Christopher Hamersley, Aaron Moore and wife, Kerrie, Brian and Jeff Moore, Jamie Harr and husband, Jason, children, Rachel, Megan, and Zachary, Lisa Norton and husband, Chris, children, Anna and Christian, and Brooke Lynd. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 9, at 2:00 PM at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 7714 Hazelton-Etna Road, Pataskala, Ohio, with Pastor Wayne Zavotka and Pastor Ann Marie Winters officiating.
