BRAHM Walter T. Brahm, age 91, of Columbus, passed away Friday, March 22, 2002 at Friendship Village of Columbus. Born to Lydia and Edward Brahm in Massillon, Oh. on October 9, 1910. Graduated from Adelbert College of Western Reserve University School of Library Science. Served as Reference Librarian at the Western Reserve University Library, 1933-36; Assistant Director of the Toledo, Oh. Public Library, 1936-42; and served as State Librarian of Ohio, 1942-1964 securing the longest tenure in that position since its establishment. He received the Ohio Librarian of the Year Award in 1959 for the formation of Book Mobile Service in rural areas of Ohio, and he founded the Ohio Library Foundation, an organization to assist Ohio Libraries. He later served as State Librarian of Connecticut from 1964-1975. He founded the New England Document Conservation Center, now the North East Document Conservation Center. Mr. Brahm was elected to the Ohio Library Hall of Fame in 1978 and he received a certificate of Recognition from the Library Council in 1999. He was a 50 plus year member of New England Lodge #4 F&AM and a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and the Worthington Presbyterian Church. His survivors include his wife of 66 years, Estelle H. Brahm; daughter, Carolyn Brahm (Dan) Owens of Worthington; granddaughters, Beth Ann Owens of Columbus and Cynthia Owens (C. Steven) Satterthwaite of Mason, Oh.; great-grandchildren, C. Bradley and Amy E. Satterthwaite. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2002 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 High St., Worthington, with Dr. Philip Hazelton officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the service on Monday.
