BERRY Clifton Berry, 94, beloved father, husband, colleague and friend, died peacefully on August 25, 2009. A native of Maine, Cliff grew up in Passaic, N.J. where he attended the Newark College of Engineering before joining the Navy in 1943. He attended Youngstown, Western Michigan, and Franklin Universities. Cliff dedicated his life to serving others, spending nearly 40 years working for YMCAs in Hoboken, N.J., East Deerfield, Mass., Campbell, Oh., Bellefontaine, Oh., Bluefield, W.Va., Kalamazoo, Mich. and Columbus. He was a member of Kiwanis International for 50+ years and served as the President of the Kiwanis Club of Northern Columbus and Treasurer of the Northern Kiwanis Foundation. After retiring from the YMCA, Cliff volunteered at Riverside Methodist Hospital for more than 13 years, and the Beechwold-Clintonville Community Resources Center. A founding member of Highlands Presbyterian Church, Cliff was a Commissioner and served on many committees for the Presbytery of the Scioto Valley. In his youth, Cliff was a dancer, member of a Masonic degree installation team, practical joker, and photographer. He never lost his love of learning, he took up digital photography at age 90 and bought a computer at age 91. A resident of Worthington since 1965, Cliff spent his final years as a resident of Friendship Village of Columbus where he was deeply involved in the life of the community and served on many different committees. Cliff was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years and the love of his life, Gladys. He was also preceded in death by his brother Jimmy. Cliff is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Edna Berry and Stanley Laughlin of Providence, Ut. and Anne Berry Strait and Robert Strait of Sugar Grove, Oh.; grandchildren, Caitlin and Jonathon Berry Laughlin of Utah. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Ben Davies of North Canton, Oh.; sisters-in-law, Lucy Berry of Madison, Wis., Margaret Davies of Albuquerque, N.M.; nieces and nephews; and by his dear friends, Marcia and Dick Childs of Worthington. A Memorial Service and Celebration will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Highlands Presbyterian Church, 6909 Smoky Row Road, Columbus, Oh. 43235, where family will receive friends for an hour before and after the service.
