Dorothy Parker Beck, a longtime resident of Upper Arlington, died Thursday May 4, 1995 at Kobacker House. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Philip A. Beck; daughters Linda Powell (David) Desper, Worthington, Oh., Rebecca Powell Cummins, Yorktown, Va.; grandchildren David Coonfare, Dan (Pam) Coonfare, all of Columbus, Oh., Emliy Cummins (John) Ratcliff, Lakewood, Oh., Carolyn Cummins, Olympia, Wash.; great-granddaughter Heather Coonfare; brother William M. (Margaret) Parker, Newport News, Va.; nieces Jane Lindley, Myrtland (Robert) Rettig, Burr Ridge, Ill., Meg (Gary) Stulz, Newport News, Va.; nephews Bernard Ghiselin, Greensboro, N.C., Ashley (Jodie) Parker, Smithfield, Va., William M. Parker III, Newport News, Va.; brother-in-law Herman A. Mildred Beck, Worthington, Oh. Preceded in death by her sisters Virginia Hiselin and Myrtland Henderson. She was born September 30, 1912 in Newport News, Va., where she completed high school and went on to graduate from Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg, Va., where she was active in journalism and drama. She was a lontime member of Mountview Baptist Church, having been active in its early establishment in the 1950's. She was active in Sunday School, Esther Circle, American Baptist Women's Society and Willing Workers. A member of Grow & Show Garden Club, Arlington area book clubs and Friends of the Library. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Rd. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mountview Baptist Church, 2140 Fishinger Rd. Pastor Kenneth Whitt officiating. Interment Walnut Grove Cemetery.
