Everett Ellsworth Allen, 96, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018 at Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS. Born April 16, 1921, at Allentown, Ohio, he was the son of Ezra and Annie (Davis) Allen. Everett was a resident of Protection, KS, moving there in 2006, previously living in Ohio and Florida. He was a veteran of World War II where in 1940, at the age of 19, he went into the U.S. Army Air Corps (now the Air Force). He was a sergeant, spending five years in Panama and one year in the States. Everett worked for Dr. Herrick Lee Johnson at Ohio State University where he went to Eniwetok Atoll in the Pacific Islands and witnessed the first test of a thermonuclear device (Hydrogen Bomb) on November 1, 1952. In September 1955, he became an employee for the government in Civil Service at Defense Construction Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio. He worked as a Procurement Specialist for 30 years, retiring January 3, 1986. Everett was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed NASCAR, Drag Racing, and Monster Truck Racing. On December 10, 1945, he married Cleo Gray. She preceded him in death on September 15, 2005. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by one daughter: Shirley Norton and husband Don of Protection, KS; three grandchildren: Randy Norton and wife Angie of Spicewood, Texas, Greg Norton of Spicewood, Texas, and Mitzi Forbes and husband John of Stone Mountain, Georgia; six great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, Ohio, from 10 am to 11 am. A graveside service will be held at Walnut Grove Cemetery at 11:30 am on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Memorials are suggested to Protection Valley Manor in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O.
